Refractory Ceramic Fiber Vacuum Formed Shapes

Standard precast refractory and special ceramic fiber shapes with extremely low thermal conductivity and excellent thermal shock resistance
Gemcolite® Vacuum Formed Ceramic Fiber Shapes
Gemcolite® Vacuum formed refractory ceramic fiber shapes are uniquely formulated from a blend of high purity alumina-silica fibers with an appropriate combination of organic and inorganic binders. Handling strength is provided by the organic binder, and product integrity at higher working temperature is maintained by the inorganic binder. No asbestos, phenolic binders or exothermics are used. Maximum use temperature for the standard formulation is 2600°F and 3000°F.

Outstanding Energy Savings
Low thermal conductivity, low heat storage, and excellent insulating properties make Gemcolite® refractory ceramic fiber shapes important conservers of energy. Superior resistance to thermal shock permits rapid heating and cooling without cracking or spalling. Non-wetting properties and high refractory characteristics are distinct advantages.

Applications Include:
Gaskets
Flue Liners
Range burner insulation
Burner Nozzle
Sleeves
Boards for furnace and kiln insulation and linings
Easily molded insulating wet blanket
Combustion chambers for oil or gas fired boilers
     and water heaters
Secondary combustion chambers for solid fuel heaters

Manufacturing Options and Capabilities
Surface Treatment
Gemcolite® vacuum formed ceramic fiber shapes can be surface treated on one or both sides to form an inorganic protective shell for extra strength. They can also be impregnated, so that the entire shape is almost rock-hard throughout. This makes the ceramic fiber shapes the strongest of all vacuum formed products, providing them with considerable resistance to mechanical abuse. All materials utilized for impregnation and surface treatment are inorganic and refractory.
Combinations
Ceramic fiber shapes can be cemented together in a strong bond to form larger or more complex configurations. This operation can be done in Refractory Specialties' plant or at the users' facility. A compatible fiber cement is available upon request.
Durability
Gemcolite® ceramic fiber shapes resist oxidation, reduction, and attack from most corrosives except hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid, and heavy concentrations of alkalies. Water or oil will not damage Gemcolite® shapes. Upon drying, shapes regain their superior physical properties.
Wide Variety of Ceramic Fiber Shapes Available
Sleeves, insulating boards, and wet blankets, and furnace combustion chambers are among the many standard Gemcolite® vacuum formed shapes. Special ceramic fiber shapes and specifications are also available.
Special Die Shapes
Each Gemcolite® vacuum formed special ceramic fiber shape requires a unique mold design. Molds are custom made for our plant. Most Gemcolite® special ceramic fiber shapes are formed on a male mold. They are made smooth on the inside surface through contact with the mold's screen, while the outside is rough and "bark " like. However, when desirable, these surface textures can be reversed by utilizing a more elaborate female mold.
Technical Support & Custom Formulations for Use Temperatures Up To 3000°F
Technical support for refractory and heat transfer solutions is available free of charge upon request. Custom formulations using organic and inorganic binder compositions are available for use in temperatures up to 3000°F.
