Multiple surface treatments available for insulating materials

Refractory Specialties offers a broad variety of surface treatments to provide a thermal insulation material that best fits your needs. Surface treatments can be applied for additional hardness or rigidity, reduce dusting, water resistance, and chemical or abrasion resistance. In addition to these applications, custom formulations can be made for specific applications.

RSI Rigidizer™

RSI Rigidizer™ is a solution that can be applied to most of our products to provide more rigidity and hardness. It can be sprayed on, brushed on, or the part can be submerged in the solution to provide varying levels hardness and rigidity. Using RSI Rigidizer™ greatly reduces the amount of dusting due to air velocity or mechanical abrasion. Rigidizing solutions available for applications up to 1650°C (3000°F).

Gemseal™

MSDS | Technical Data Sheet

Gemseal™ is a Silicone based coating that is used to provide a water resistant insulation surface. Gemseal™ is applied by submerging part in Gemseal™ solution, or it can be sprayed on. It is effective up to 800°F (425°C).

High Purity Coatings

Ceria, Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ), and Alumina compositions are available for Sinterlyte™ kiln setters. These coatings provide a non-reactive surface for firing of high tech materials such as fuel cells, powdered metals, and electronic components. In addition to providing a non-reactive firing surface they act to provide a dust free, smooth surface. These coatings are also available on other RSI products.

Additional Coating Types

In addition to these common surface treatments, RSI offers a wide range of custom coatings to provide: chemical resistance, non-wetting to aluminum, dust free surfaces, abrasion resistance, infrared reflectivity, high emmisivity, gas impermeability, and impact resistance in a large array of materials.
