Surface Treatment
Gemcolite vacuum-formed shapes can be surface-treated on one or both sides to form an inorganic protective shell for extra strength. They can also be impregnated, so that the entire shape is almost rock-hard throughout. This makes the shapes the strongest of all vacuum-formed products, providing them with considerable resistance to mechanical abuse. All materials utilized for impregnation and surface treatment are inorganic and refractory.
Combinations
Shapes can be cemented together in a strong bond to form larger or more complex configurations. This operation can be done in Refractory Specialties plant or at the users facility. Appropriate cement is available upon request.
Durability
Gemcolite shapes resist oxidation, reduction, and attack from most corrosives(except hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid, and heavy concentrations of alkalis). Water or oil will not damage Gemcolite shapes. Upon drying, shapes regain their superior physical properties.
Wide Variety of Shapes Available
Sleeves, insulating boards and wet blankets, and furnace combustion chambers are among the many standard Gemcolite vacuum-formed shapes. Special shapes, specifications, are also available.
Special Die Shapes
Each Gemcolite vacuum-formed special shape requires a unique mold design. Molds are made individually for our plant. Most Gemcolite special shapes are formed on a male mold. They are made smooth on the inside surface through contact with the mold's screen, while the outside is rough and bark-like. However, where desirable, these surface textures can be reversed by utilizing a more elaborate female mold.
