T-Cast® Glue or Filler products are made from Polycrystalline Alumina Fibers. These products contain 98% Alumina and are very low in Silica. T-Cast® glue is suited for applications up to 1650°C (3000°F). T-Cast® glues were designed for use in conjunction with T-Cast® Fuel Cell Insulation for use in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Furnaces and Kilns having reducing atmospheres, Syngas Production and Nuclear Reactors where the presence of Silica is not desired.

Sinterlyte High Purity Kiln Furniture

Sinterlyte is a lightweight porous kiln setter for temperature applications up to 1600°C (2900°F). Kiln setters can be coated with Ceria, Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia, Alumina, or left uncoated. As well as providing a non reactive surface, coatings eliminate dusting and provide a smoother, more wear resistant surface.

Solid Oxide Fuel Cell – Components

Fuel Cells are clean, efficient, and reliable sources of power, electricity, and energy. Fuel Cells are an environmentally friendly technology that uses fuels efficiently.

Unlike solar energy that requires the sun, which isn’t guaranteed, fuel cells only require fuel, which is a readily available resource. Fuel is an always-available resource, thus making fuel cells a reliable way to create energy.

Components of Fuel Cells

Fuel cells combine fuel with oxygen to produce electricity and heat (from 800ºC to 1000ºC or 1475ºF to 1830ºF). The fuel cell is made up of an anode, cathode, and electrolyte. The material used and the design of the supporting structure of the electrolyte determines the type and performance of the fuel cell.

Powdered Metals Sintering

Unifrax Engineered Thermal Components (UETC) has been expanding the use of high temperature insulation and refractory products for years. Continually developing products for industries where heat needs to be directed or contained, UETC can create products that withstand 2,100 to more than 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

UETC offer a variety of manufacturing and prototyping capabilities. Powdered metal sintering is one way to form ceramic objects. According to Dictionary.com, sintering is “to form large particles, lumps, or masses, from metal powders or powdery ores, by heating or pressuring, or both, to a temperature lower than its melting point.” Powdered metal sintering allows for intricate, multi-level parts with greater mechanical, strength and fatigue properties.

Powdered metal sintering is being used more often because there are many advantages to using the material powdered metal.

Powder metal sintering can create many different products. It can produce lawn and garden tools like irrigation, sprinkler rotors, pattern adjusters, shoes, and spray nozzles. It can also form tools like grips, cutters, saw tips, wrench components and knife bolsters. Powder metal sintering can make hardware too, like dead bolts, latch bolts, cams and levers. Sintering is known to be used to create products for the automotive, lawn and garden, hand tools, irrigation, lock hardware, medical, computer and cutlery industries.

Refractory Specialties are known for using powder metal sintering on a material called Sinterlyte. Sinterlyte is a “lightweight porous kiln setter for temperature applications up to 1600 degrees Celsius (2900 degrees Fahrenheit).” This material can be covered in three different coatings to eliminate dusting and provide a more wear resistant surface. When this material is formed, it can be made into sheets, custom shapes or corrugated plates. Sinterlyte is great because it conserves energy with its low thermal conductivity and heat storage. Sinterlyte also cannot be cracked, when sintered, because it has thermal shock resistance.

Products for Above 3000°F (1650°C)

Many of Unifrax Engineered Thermal Components’s materials have melting points well above 3000°F. Factors such as shrinkage and differential heating can lead to failures above this temperature. In certain applications our materials can be used above 3000°F (eg: intermittent high temperatures, exothermic welding). If you have an application above 3000°F, please call to discuss your application with our knowledgeable staff. They will be able to validate one of our materials, if applicable.
