Refractory Specialties, our Sebring, Ohio plant has been ISO 9001:2008 compliant since 2004. Specialty Ceramics, our Columbiana, Ohio, plant is currently working to implement ISO at this location.

Specialty Ceramics strives to offer the best quality products in the industry. Customer satisfaction is priority #1, and for that reason, we are excited to announce the implementation of the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System. This system is designed to raise quality, lower costs, and increase customer satisfaction.

ISO is an International Organization for Standards formed by technical committees. It was established in 1947, in Switzerland, to develop intellectual, scientific, technological, and economic cooperation between member countries. ISO is derived from the Greek word “isos” which means “same as”. “Same as” implies the consumers get what they expect, which translates to quality. Therefore, the root word ISO stands for quality.

ISO 9001:2008 improves operational processes, the quality of products, and increases customer satisfaction. The focus is set on tight process control and monitoring product properties, ensuring customers’ specifications are met or exceeded. These results are achieved through written work procedure documentation that is consistently followed.

We are currently in the implementation stage of ISO 9001:2008. This implementation instills in our employees the Quality Management Principles that will empower the employees to adjust existing processes and develop new ones with the goal of satisfying and exceeding customer requirements.

ISO 9001:2008 was developed to define specific processes, documentation and roles to ensure quality. Our top management is committed to this program and it shows all the way down to the shop floor. We continually strive to improve our product and its consistency and repeatability. Just as ISO stands for quality, so does Specialty Ceramics.
